New altar servers should become familiar with the following duties. Practice sessions may then be done with the pastor or a parish deacon, as arranged with the family (typically after a Sunday Mass).
 

1. Carry Cross to Sanctuary

2. Hold Missal for Opening Prayer

3. Bring The Chalice to the Altar

4. Bring the Ciborium to the Altar

5. Give the Wine, then Water, to the priest
    
6. Wash the priest’s hands

7. Ring bells

8. Bring all purified vessels to the credence table

9. Hold missal for the communion prayer

10. Carry the cross out
